Question about alloy wheel refurbing...
I have a set of Range Rover wheels that are not really damaged but old and corroded. The seat for the tyres is bubbling with corrosion and 3 out of
the 4 dont hold air any more.
Is it a simple blast and powder coat affair with a new set of tyres to sort this out?
Needs to be cost affective though as a new steel modular comes in at £38 a corner.
How much to blast and powder coat a wheel?
Angle grinder with a wire brush, commonly known as the "tool" followed by bead seal before fitting the tyres
You will pay more than £38 per wheel for a proper wheel refurb.
I was recently quotes £60 a wheel by a refurb co. in Crawley!!
My local place is £55 p/wheel
Long time ago, with an MG Maestro - it's wheels went leaky very quickly.
I removed the tires, - I know it's hard work, but money was a big factor then - and with no
power tools, just a wire brush and some 'stuff' from halfords, cleaned , painted and laquered the bead area
before having new tires fitted. Lasted all the time I had the car.
Elbow grease and a couple of bob did the job

Cheapest I've found was for a bog standard powdercoat on good wheels, £25 a corner. They say any remedial work will be charged more, so I suspect
they'll take one look at your wheels and starting sucking air through their teeth.
I actually have a wheel with very slight kerb damage that isn't holding air, I'm expecting around £50 for clean up and coat.
I think your wheels are going to need a DIY job to make it cost effective.
The place in crawley does them for £55 a wheel, and i cant recomend them higher, ive had about 8/9 wheels done there on different cars, not all mine,
and every time they have come back as new

I've heard mixed reviews about this place, but they are very cheap!!!
£20 per wheel.
Click City powder coating
Hi Steve,
Porous alloys just need a generous coat of the black sealant they use when tyres leak around the rim - a band of about 2" should do it nicely. It
would prob be cheaper to get the wheels sparayed with 2 pack rather than powder coating, they are a bit to big for the DIY powdercoat magic job!

And also factor in the life of the modular wheels! My set of Wellers went rusty within 12 months and looked dreadful. I had to take then off, remove
the tyres, get the rims blasted and powder-coated......
I found a guy who blasted wheels for £5-£8 each and another company who coated for £16/rim in stock flat colours.
Google "chicago coatings mossley" I've just had three sets of wheels done. Blasted and powder coated silver and they look like new. £60 a set for the 15" and £50 a set for the 12", total cost £170 for 12 wheels. It's a bit of an old school place (no office, don't do emails etc) I only live local so dropped of and collected 24hrs later. They've powder coated all sorts for me and my mates always been happy.
