Squeak from rear Brakes
Bumble - 15/8/12 at 02:22 PM

Hi all,
I have a bloody annoying squeak from the rear brakes, mainly near side when car is moving. When you apply the brakes the squeak disappears. I'm running discs at the back (Sierra calipers). I've tried slackening the handbrake right off but this makes no difference.
Before I go stripping it all down anything else I could try first or things to look out for?
Cheers,
Matt

Did you put some copperease on the back of the pad / anti rattle shim, and did you actually fit the anti rattle shim / plate?

NO grease, just a smear of copperease.

No copper grease used in assembly and no shims fitted. Where do you get the shims from?
Cheers,
Matt

Give Bigg Red a call (http://www.biggred.co.uk/). Got some shims and new pins for my M16s from them, and very happy with price and service.

Well, further to the OP and replies I receieved, I stripped the rear brakes at the weekend, cleaned and smeared thin layer of copper slip on back of the pads. Squeaky brakes no more. Quite unnerving now, it's so quiet when running that I'll now have to turn my attention to the fuel pump noise!!
Thanks,
Matt
