What BMC is this?
jon200 - 20/11/12 at 08:18 PM

It's ford but that's all I know. It wasn't working but the servo was attached too? Any ideas?

Looks like Cortina MK4 to me, but I have been wrong before

Yes Mk3 to 5 Cortina but most Girling master cylinders and servos fitted to medium cars of this era are pretty similar.

Thanks for that, any idea why the servo was connected? It certainly isnt servo assisted!

Not sure why you think it shouldn't be, tbh the servo is a bit lame and not up to modern car standards. A quick way to test it is to start the engine, then switch off and pull the hose off, should be a loud hissing sound even hours later, non usually means a burst diaphram or knackered one way valve though I've never seen one that had failed

Excuse my ignorance but why?

whitestu - 21/11/12 at 02:59 PM

British Motor Corporation was what Austin and Morris became before becoming British Leyland

Ah I see. I'm not that old so only knew BL

britishtrident - 21/11/12 at 04:39 PM

Austin + Nuffield (ie Morris group of comapines) = BMC
BMC+ Jaguar group = BMH (British Motor Holdings)
BMH + Leyland group = BL
BL begat Austin Rover and then ............................
