I received these with my Westie:



I plan on using a 7" Sierra diff. I just want to check if these would be what I need to complete my shafts:

2 stub shafts like this
FORD SIERRA STUB AXLE CV JOINT (SET) &' HUB NUTS 100MM (BRAND NEW)

4 100mm lobros like this
FORD SIERRA CONSTANT VELOCITY CV JOINT &' BOOT KIT 100MM (BRAND NEW)

Job done?

Have you a photo of your diff?

There are at least 2 kinds of diff.

Push in shafts, and bolt on shafts.
The new parts you describe are all for bolt on shafts.

I haven't bought the diff yet either. If I got a diff needing push in shafts, I presume I just use all of the above plus some push in stubs?

No

They are either push in or bolt on.

As a guide:
If you want to use a Ford LSD you need bolt on (lobro).
If you want to use an open diff you need push in.
If you want to use a Quaife ATB you need push in.

I'm pretty sure that the shafts themselves differ too?

Westfield describe them as Type A and type B
IIRC Type A is push in, type B is bolt on.

These are my bolt on shafts for comparison.


I have some pushin shafts too, so will check tomorrow to see if they match yours.

Counting the splines might be a good idea.

That's what I'm not sure of.

Also, I thought the Quaife needed new drive flanges from Quaife themselves and then you use bolt on shafts?

Same supplier sells the whole thing complete.

That's what I'm not sure of, though surely if Westfield have given me the shafts themselves hopefully they would end up the correct length with CV's fitted?

I'm not sure about that. I have seen them selling the flanges for 108mm lobro for the 71/2 diff but not the 7".

The stubs for lobros are circliped inside the diff
Push ins are just as said push in
Some diff stubs used in the push in diffs foul the planet gear axle
We tried it, as always nothing's as simple as it appears
If you are using bolt on shafts get a bolt on diff much easier

Ok I spoke to Westfield who confirmed these are "B Type" shafts aka bolt on. They no longer offer "A Type" aka push in shafts.

They also told me that standard Sierra shafts are too long and can't be used.

So that clears that up. Now to buy some CV's and stubs
