i need a propshaft for my caterham hayabusa but as the front sprocket adaptor is off centre with dit diff i need a center bearing!
how do i measure propshaft length exactly and can i specify position of center bearing?
or is it just a case of measuring prop adaptor to diff flange and letting prop makers sort the rest? cheers
Bailey Morris make mine (2 pièces with center bearing) with the full working lenght only.
I did mine by using a piece of string, tied onto either the axle end, or the prop adaptor end - working from under the car, hold the string in the
position to approximate the position of the centre bearing and the attachment....
You will find that there is enough tolerance in a propshaft length due to the sliding section - just don't drill your centre bearing bolt holes
until you have everything is hand are happy with the location of it all...
Simples!
Check with your suplier BEFORE asking for a certain length of propshaft.
I used Bailey Morris. Certainly very good quality.
They wanted the distance form the gearbox oilseal lip to the flange on the diff.
Just make sure the company you use, gets the info in the form THEY want it.
It may save you some money and time.
EDIT:
Talk to the supplier about what you want etc. I found Bailey Morris very helpful.
