Hi Guys..
What type/make of 13" wheel do most of you guys go for to for??
I have a set of 13x7 superlights but the offset is wrong to fit my MK indys wings.. (n5)
I have sierra calipers on the rears so I have to watch the clearance on the inside as well..
thanks
Andy
I don't think that 13's will fit over the rear handbrake mechanism on an Indy.
Adam
andy,
hi.
i believe adam is correct on that one.
i also wanted to fit 13s but couldn't on an mk.
i have gone for 14s instead.
why don't you buy my spare set. 4 brand new compomotives with yokohama rubber for £384.
check out the 'for sale' section on this forum.
kindest regards,
dom.
13" split rims will fit though.
Adam
adam,
agreed.
how much money do you wanna spend?
there comes a point when expenditure exeeds measurable performance gains.
i reckon £384 for a full set of brand new wheels and tyres weighing in around the 48 kg mark, all in, is pretty good going.
how, exactly, are we defining 'locost' these days, anyway?
laters,
dom.
Locost = cheap, all parts from donor car.
Most of ours don't go that far.
I think Type R1 is right, that is a bargain for a new set of wheels. It is cheaper than going split rim!
Adam
my old d reg sierra had 13" steel wheels, i gather some early sierra's had smaller diameter front disks or something (might be making that
up) but the problem with 14" is if you're using rear discs. rear druims will cope with a 13" wheel though, the handbrake fouls a
13" on a rear disc model though.
Ned.
ned,
someone else told me that some sierras came with 13" steelies, running rear drums.
i wasn't confident about 13" alloys though, so i bought 14s.
i'm running drums at the back too, as i understand 7s can be over braked at the back, on discs. plus drums save weight and money and you
don't cover your rims with brake dust either. dude!
i will be getting some fake discs to cover up my drums though, as i'm too embarassed to drive around like that. not.
who's gonna get a side view of the car, anyway?
ciao, ciao.
dom.
check out this site:

they do custom wheels in many sizes and widths, with any hub fitment. 13x8 inch wheels are £105 each in ally, they also do magnesium wheels for a
price. They had a stand at the harrogate show. 13x8 is gonna give some serious grip for not much weight!
for my next car im gonna have 13x8 on the back and 13x5.5 or 6 on the front. current car gets ford steel!

Thanks for the feedback guys..
I have talked to compomotive - who were not a great deal of help, I also talked to the kitcar workshop who were... best wheel they say for the track
is a 13" and they use CRX's but the offset is still wrong for an Indy.. so looks like I may have to go for 14inch after all.. R1 your wheels
look like a good deal but I want to use 048's as its for trackdays and hill climbs- do you know if your man has any of those alloys left??
athoirs,
i will make some enquiries and get back to you.
regards,
dom.
A048s are not the best for hillclimbs as they do not provide as much 'off-the-line' grip as the A032s, but as an all rounder they are great.
Better in the wet than the 32s apparantly.
Adam
athoirs,
there are two sets of wheels left, @ £240 per set.
do you want a quote for tyres too? (the guy is an agent for yokohama).
regards,
dom.
