I have a problem, regarding the front wishbones.

I have started to try and set up as best I can the front suspension, camber and Toe.

I have adjusted the ride height and achieved 130mm to the chassis rail. The lower wishbone as angled down so the maxi ball joint is in line with the lower pivot and draws a parallel line between them, to the floor.

The upper wishbone has a slight rise to the upright.

So I think this is a good strarting point.

The camber at present is off the guage +3 negative and when I try to get it down to what I understand is a good starting point of 1 negative i am running out of thread and the drag link is coming out of the adjuster.

I have looked at similar cars to mine on here (photos) and they seem to have a lot more thread in the adjuster than I am achieving.

Can someone give me some pointers please

Not sure on your setup, but the bottom wishbone should be parallel to the ground, try setting it at parallel and see if you have more adjustment.

A lot depends on tyre circumference, having bottom wishbone parallel to the ground is not always a good thing, however my first question would be is your suspension Cortina or Sierra based, if Sierra you can turn the mushroom to reduce the camber.

I just looked at you photo archive ----that mix of parts won't work you have wishbones designed for Sierra uprights, either swap to Sierra parts or get either the upper or lower wishbones remade.

Can you explain the differences

Apparently the top bone is the same for either according to gts drawings I haven't got the lower drawing' however they we're bought as a set from Darren although that's no guarantee I guess

Web info shows the Sierra has about 10 degrees more king pin inclination than the Cortina this translates directly into negaive camber ie if you fit a Cortina upright in place of a Sierra the result is 10 degrees more negative camber.

It would seem that the lower Cortina ones are 36mm shorter than the Sierra ones having done some searching way back on here.

Looks like I need some new bones or mine altering.

I've checked my cycle wing brackets and they are for Cortina uprights, looks like Darren dropped a clanger with the bones though.

Does anyone know who does these I've sent a question to Rally Design, but as GTS are no longer around may be difficult to get some.

Bottom wishbones are the same between sierra and cortina, the difference is in the top one, cortina one is ~25mm longer.

One way round might be to convert the top wishbones to Rose joints but 25mm is a big difference and result might not look neat and tidy.

I know you have a a lot of nice shiny Cortina bit but the simplest solution is to sell them off and go with Sierra front end parts.

A better solution might be an internally threaded insert with a stepped outer diameter welded into the upper wishbone in place of the camber adjuster. It will make Camber adjustment less convenient but once the camber is set you shouldn't need to alter unless youmake changes. The GTS Camber light alloy adjuster are a bit iffy anyway.
Not an ideal solution from the design purist point of view but it will work it will be well within safety margins and be stiff enough.

Thanks for that, have been looking at various options, rose joints etc.

I Will see what RD have to say tomorrow then decide which way to go, bit of a bummer as I am not far off finishing-not the end of the world though
