Hi all, I've got to replace the knackered seals on my diff and they wont come out easily so removing the diff is the best course of action.
Although i cant seem to see how its going to come out with the room available? Any suggestions?

Funny you should ask this i have just removed a oil seal on my sierra diff today i just used a small screw driver and a hammer and tapped it out from
the edge it came out in seconds
Jacko
Jacko I've tried every which way I can think of ( bar one of those removal pullers) and it won't budge, I've done loads of these in the past on various cars and this ine is by far the most difficult!
Bigger hammer
The problem i am having is unscrewing the castle nut all the teeth have broke off
Jacko
Castle nut? Are you referring to the outermost ring that is held in its location by the screw and tab?
Seals don't look completely fooked so you can't have been trying very hard
Get a level under the lip and pull; As it distorts it'll
become looser.
That looks like and older version of the IRS diff cage (it's smaller that the later ones) and I think it needs the fuel tank out and the diff
comes out through the back of the cage.
Isn't the claw hammer the recommended tool for removing these seals.
you should see the other side seal that one well fooked!
I cant get the fuel tank out from below its been dropped in pre-tub fitment and its too large (9gal) to tank out from above unless I want to remove
the tub and as you know that's a MAJOR job.

Ill pick one of those universal pullers up from machine mart and give that a try. The diffs not coming out any way I try, shame little did she know I was going to nick the other halfs X5 steam cleaner on it before painting .
