Disc splash shields
jonbeedle - 5/2/05 at 08:39 AM

Morning!
I bought some new front disc splash shields off Ebay, described as for a Mk 3,4 or 5 Cortina or Mk 2 Escort. They didn't fit my Cortina hubs. Does anyone know if these have to be fitted for the SVA? Has anyone else out there bothered to fit them? Does anyone know where I can get the proper ones? Is the world flat or round? Does anyone care....? Sorry, getting carried away!

Cheers
Jon

99% of locosts that I've seen don't have them. They are not mandatory for SVA (providing it dosen't expose any more accesible sharp edges).

Extra weight and there is nothing behind them like in a tintop that may get splashed.

Often wondered about these. Personally, I quite like the look of then as it cleans up that area of the car, bujt thats a purely visual observation.

i would leave them off too as it's one less thing to clean up and paint for one thing!

I get the impression that I shouldn't bother with them!
In that case, can I interest anyone in a pair of new splash shields, freshly painted which don't seem to fit anything...? No? I guess not then!
Thank you all for your help.
Cheers

There's another really good reason for not fitting them - it leaves three M8 threaded holes free for fastening your motorcycle mudguards!

Yeah, I thought about that. I've seen others do it, but I fixed mine to the top rod end. However it means grinding down the nyloc nut so that it locks properly or doing the same to a castellated nut so you can get the split pin in. I think it's visible on one of the pics in my archive.
