
Hi all
can someone confirm to me the taper on the mk1 transit ball joint to be 15 degrees included angle? i've done a search but i cant find the
conformation of the taper angle.
i'm hopeing to find a tapered reammer to make my inserts but i kinda need to know the taper before i look for one

Not sure what it is in degrees but they have a 1:8 taper, or 1 1/2" to the foot in the American way of expressing this . HTH, Steve.
1:8 taper is 7.2 degrees.

thats a handy pic although it looks like 7.5degree angle! can i take that as gospel?
The included angle is 14.250032 degrees, not 15.
If you don't have accurately mating tapers and seats, the nuts on the taper studs will forever loosen.
If you overtighten the nuts to compensate, you run the risk of breaking the stud while you're driving along.
So...i need to change my drawing then?

You can get some lovely ally ones from GTS. They're about £25-30 IIRC.

do they make the alloy ones to fit the cosworth upright?
I think even if they do i think it would be just as cheap for me to make them myself+ i can do an offset hole going though at whatever angle to suit
my suspention setup.

I've searched for a while to find a 14.25deg reemer and the best i can find is 14deg
does it really matter that much? my oldman rekons if
it has to be that fussy i'd be better taking it out to the 14 deg and then bed it in with smooth grinding paste to get a perfect fit. would this
work ok?

I found a company that can make the exact taper for me but they are wanting £140+ for it so thats a bit out of the question too. I really need one now
as i'm making my rear uprights and i'm using transit ball joints on the top of them as well so i'm gonna have to do something about
it

I'll echo Rorty's post...getting the taper pretty damn near spot on DOES matter otherwise it just doesn't seat correctly.
When looking for reamers search automotive tool suppliers rather than regular machine shop suppliers and specify it in inches per foot rather than the
angle.

Thanks for the links but your too late i ended up straping an angle plate on to the face plate of the old DSG type 25 and set the top slide to the
desired angle and machined it out with great precision. took forever to do but it's a good fit and i'm happy enough with it.
