My dam brakes seem to just lock up me front wheels when hard braking, and before you all say dont press so hard...... its not that they seem to start working then they like grap the disc and lock the wheel nearly went straight on twice today braking hard for a bend. im using sierra calipers on RS turbo discs and some fast road ferodos. is this a common thing lads????

You'll probably get used to them eventually. Are they new pads and disks? They'll get keener when they bed in so I'd look at trying some different pads before you have a disaster.

What's the size of your master cylinder?

JoelP - 10/5/05 at 08:33 PM

flak monkey - 10/5/05 at 08:34 PM

What leverage ratio have you got on the brake pedal? It may be that you have too m uch leverage, which is killing the 'feel' of the brakes

There has been discussion on here before and the recommended ratio seems to be roughly 5:1 for a non-servo set-up.

Or p'raps there is something wrong with the rear brakes...

ray.h. - 11/5/05 at 05:04 PM

Do you have the pipes plumbed in back to front this will may cause the brakes to come on in the wrong sequence then over brake on the front, but i,m probably wrong,i think?

stu looks like you might have hit the nail on the head m8, just jacked it up and there is no rear braking at all looks like the master cylinder is at fault, the threaded bar going into the cylinder feels like its poped off as its all loose My god this could of been real nasty
