Are the old 4 spoke RS wheels (look same as Capri and Mk2 Escort) ok for a book chassis regarding the offset and all that?

i've got them on mine and they seem ok.

Are there different types? Ive been told there are fwd, rwd, RS and laser, 5.5J and 6J wheels that look the same but not always suitable. Does anyone know the differences and which to go for?


Ive put 6Jx13 on mine and they are very close to calipers (std sierra uprights and 240mm brakes). No oil in brakes yet so they may not be pulled back fully but i have noticed the caliper just say touching the back of the spoke.

The RS are 6J I think and I know there are issues with the Sierra rear disk setup.
I'm using the Escort drums so no problem with brake clearance.
It's just the offset I was more worried about and the inside of the wheels hitting the ali side panels.

I've got the Capri Laser 4 spokes on my Dutton, I think they're ET17 if that helps

I was told my wheels are Capri laser (not 100% sure tho'. 6Jx13ET19.

Am i right in assuming that if 19mm spacer are added the ET will be 38? Stud length is then problem and the correct nuts are expensive (ish - £40 per set from GMS gmscaprispares.co.uk 0191 3771718)

Why do Ford insist on making everything so complicated. You would have thought they would have engineered in (via their FMEA's) butchering of the cars to make up kit cars!!!!!! LOL

Does anyone have a website ref that explains the different RS wheels, sizes and applications? This might make it easier for us.

If they were 38 you'd use the 19mm spacer to take them further out to clear the trailing arms. I've just bought some Capri ones and they have 185/70 tyres which look perfect for what I want

I used Capri Laser alloys on Mk2 Escort rear axle in a book chassis with 185/70 x 13 Tyres. The tyres just touch the heads of the bolts on the trailing arms, so used 10mm wheel spacers from Rally Design, which come with longer studs. These also brought the tyres nicely in line with the outside of my arches. Used wheelnuts from Lolocost at £1 each.

just to confirm so ive got this right in my mind, if you have ET38 wheels, adding a 19mm spacer will make them ET19. Not the other way round as i originally thought??
