well i don't know where they are so will have to replace them. I'm on about te 4x bolts that hold the sierra hub carrier to the upright
(dedion ear in my case
) I remember they had a small head (for size of thread of the bolt) with a flange on the back of the bolt head. What have
others replaced them with? Can you still get these from ford? (my hunch says 'yeah right'!) or is it safe to use a normal 10.9 or 12.9 cap
heads with or without a washer?
cheers,
Ned.
I just used 12.9 Cap heads without washers.
Cheers
why are washers actually used? What is the effect of not using them?
I've used 12.9 cap heads with sprung washers
I also used 12.9 caps without washers - no probs here 3k miles later.
Pat...
thanks guys..
Ned.
I don't suppose anyone has used 8.8 Bolts to mount the rear hub carrier, or are these just way too weak?
If they are too weak, does anyone know where to get 12.9 ones?
Cheers!
Ned
I'll check in the garage as i may well have a set of 8 bolts knocking about, are the rear disc hubs the same bolts as drums ?
Mine are for rear disc set up,i'll contact you tomorow if i have them.
My hub is a disc setup so it's basically M10 * 30mm that are needed.. If you have got some I will gladly send you cash for the bolts +
postage...
Cheers bob
Capheads with no washers is fine. Definitely wouldn't use spring washers, they are the work of the devil!
As far as I know, and I stand to be corrected on this one, I thought that washers are for two principal reasons, 1) to give a consistent surface to
tighten against so that tightening torques don't vary too much and clamping forces are similar from bolt to bolt and 2) to spread bolt
load..............is that right???
