Cortina uprights or anything else I can use. I have got myself a Mk2 rear axle, diff, drums, driveshafts & some rather nice cheap alloys (and I
mean CHEAP!). So I would like to go for the standard build as near as poss except for lengthening the chassis cab slightly 'cos I'm a lanky
git (hence the username
)
Any ideas gratefully received.

ive got 2 pairs of sierra front assemblies, but im a bit far away...
Some options:
- Sierra uprights with some part to connect the upper ball in the shock's eye.
- Westfield uprights: a bit expensive.
- Uprights from an Opel Manta or Ascona (=Vauxhall Something in GB?). Nearly the same in design (see my pics archive) but requires a different
wishbone design.
- Uprights from a Hyundai Stellar or from another rice can, make a search to find the exact type.
You can use cut down escort/capri struts/hubs/upright assemblies.
i.e as used on Striker/dutton setup.
Stuart Taylor had the capri versions on display at stoneleigh.
There was a chap on ebay with the user ID ccbilly about 6 weeks ago that said he had 70 pairs, try an ebay search on ccbilly & on one of his current or old items 'ask seller a question'
When I said they are as rair as hens teath to a guy he said b****ks how many pairs did I want?

Ill try and find his number

) and I'm now coming across issues like the belts aren't long enough.
Thanks for the input chaps. Sounds like there are still some cortina bits out there then!
James, I am 5' 16" tall so that is why I thought about lengthening the chassis. I have not yet managed to sit in a Locost but as you
suggest, it may be a good idea. Is it really that much grief to lengthen the cab by 3 or 4" though?
JB
I went past there on the way to and from Cromer last week. He's got a yard on the side of the road but I only saw Sierras in there. I'll have to have a look in if we go past again.
Hi, I'm 6'3 ish which is pretty close to you. I fit in a standard chassis if i don't have a fancy seat ......... personally i'd
sit in a few cars without seats to see how much space you've got. Once you've done that, decide if you want to make it bigger. If you do go
bigger, try making everything bigger so its in proportion. Saw one car that was bigger in the cockpit and it looked to my eye "wrong" (no
idea how much bigger it was).
Good luck.
Is 5'16" the same as 6'4"?

Hi MikeR,
I know what you mean about keeping the proportion right, but the problem is, I have a MK2 escort rear axle, and as it is I am going to have to use
spacers to allow enough clearance for the wheels I have which have a larger offset than the standard, so the chassis cannot really be widened unless I
want some really BIG spacers which is not a good idea!.
I need to do a bit more thinking and research, but I would like to keep to the escort chassis as I have also got steering gear as well so all I need
to do is decide what engine and obtain a propshaft.

If starting again I would increase the height of the chassis by 25mm or more.

Check out E bay item number 4561157488, current price £0.99 . Sorry anyone that is watching this item , must find out how to put in link. HTH Rusty
i'll have a capri axle for sale soon which is (i think) 4" wider (2" each side) Currently with book trailing arm brackets but they could be removed and replaced with some a bit wider very easily.

Is that if using the sierra engine?
JB
well you guys seem to think that the sierra upright set-up should be avoided, i have them on mine and had a few dowts about the handling affects on
the car, even nearly changed them for cortina ones
but having spent some time on setting the whole car up and driving hard on track days etc i
cannot fault them. seems to be alot more important things to worrie about (like my driving)
