Looking for some wheels - advice...
MarkS2kUK - 1/9/05 at 09:18 AM

Hey Guys

I havent event got the car yet and its started!! I want to get some replacement wheels for the car, second hand. First off what size do you guys recommend? As far as diameter goes I was thinking 15". Not too big where it will affect accelaration but still big enough to look nice? Thoughts?

But the main question: Offsets? Do I have to worry too much? The car has a Capri rear and Cortina front. If I have to worry about offset what should I be looking for? Is there any give and take?

It all depends on what you're building. If you're going for a book Locost then I would recommend keeping it simple. Use Escort donor parts if you can and Capri Lazer wheels (13x185). That way everything will fall together!
You can always change your wheels and put a 180bhp bike engine in with a turbo and a nitrous bottle and all that stuff later on after the SVA.
Good luck.
Cheers
Jon

actually im cheating, ive bought a car already built, it just has some nasty wheels on it, looking to replace them. It has Cortina Axles at the front and Capri at the rear.

IIf I were you mate I would start brousing through Ebay Measure the ofsett on the wheels you have that fit although they look poxey and see what turns up that will fit you may be pleasantly suprised . this early on it is easy to get side tracked into spending silly money on wheels at the expenses of the rest of your build .

What everybody for gets about wheels is most important for handling unsprung WEIGHT. Some of the after market wheels design for Nova boys weigh a lot more more than the eqivalent steel wheel would.

With a Seven type car you really have to go for classic style wheels -- Minilite pattern or Revolution
