Steel type (grade) for suspension bit?

Hello all,

Am looking to make (er...have made..) bits like the ones seen in the following link for my MX-5 spindles.

What type of steel would be recommended for the 'pins' (The brassy looking bits in the photos).

Regards,

Brian

Either 4140 steel or 17-4 PH stainless steel.

Thank you Rorty,

Would heat treating of either be recommended (required) after machining?

Brian

For a Locost? Probably not, but if you want a belt and braces approach, then it certainly wouldn't hurt. Both materials can be heat treated.
