De Dion Rear

Is it possible to shorten Sierra driveshaft so a de dion rear can be made the same width as a Escort?

Cheers

Yep. Much easier not too though. Do a search its been covered on here before.

As above, the car looks much better with a wider track anyway.
Kinda gives it a more aggresive look i think.

I think GTS have developed a de-deion for just that purpose, it might be worth trying to get hold of darren and have a chat with him about the in's and out's of it.

Yep GTS have a narrow de dion for the back end of the Challenger (Lotus 11-alike). Not sure about the details of it though.

But at the end of the day why bother? Just use a normal width sierra rear in the back of a standard chassis with the standard de dion tube from GTS.... much less hassle and expense.

Hi Paul,

All the ones I've seen have had a sleeve welded over the top.
Don't know if they weld the shafts, then slide the sleeve on or not.

I'd use a bit of preheat, say 200C, just in case its low alloy steel.
Better safe than sorry.
