Can anyone tell me what the difference is between standard mark II escort tie (Track?) rod ends and the RS 2000 green ones that are also advertised?

I bought a steering rack a long while ago on ebay which was advertised as being a MK2 rs2000 rack but frankly I wouldn't know the difference between that and a standard one anyway. Are the green RS rod ends just built to a higher spec with the same dimensions or are they physically different and not interchangable? It looks like I may be able to get on with my project which has been stalled for a long while so I'm finally taking an interest in all the bits I've accumulated so far for the build.

Will it matter which type I purchase as theres a fair old difference in the asking prices between the types?

hi i may be wrong but i think green ones only fit rs hubs if you are fitting cortina hubs then standerd ones fit .

Cheers for that. As Ive got the cortina uprights I'll just go with the standard ones. That will keep it locost at least.

MK2 RS2000 rack is the same as a MK1 Escort rack ---- not suitable for a book Locost build as the threads are UNF on track rods which don't mate to Cortina or Sierra track rod ends which are metric.

The plain vanilla MK2 Escort is what is required it has the correct M14 metric threads.

Bugger! Think the first job of the new year will be to pop round nto the hardware shop for an M14 nut and gently see what thread Ive got on the rack.

I've just had a look in the Burtons catalogue and they have a different part numbers for the mk1 racks compared to the mark 2 (including rs) so maybe theres a little bit of hope for me yet. God only knows what I've actually bought in the first place anyway!

If the threads are m14x2 then you should be OK OR1384 track rod ends or the slightly longer Sierra track rods ends fit

You should be able to tell by looking at them 1/2" UNF is a very fine pitched thread M14x2 is pretty coarse pitched.

I've confirmed the thread is M14

I was looking through a screwfix catalogue today and realised that the attachments on the 115mill grinders are all m14.

I've managed to thread a twist cup brush that I used for cleaning up old parts right along the rack thread and back and the locking nut on the rack threads perfectly on to the grinder. I didn't even have to leave the house.

I am chuffed, grateful for all your help and relieved in equal measure. I have enough crap in the garage without stocking up on parts I cant use.
