Right i have a bit of a dilemma.

I planned to use a Daewoo D-Tech engine (which i thought was a rebadged vx ecotec)

With this in mind i went in search of a manta 1.8 gearbox, which i found.

When looking at clutch components i stumbled across a possible problem. I was led to believe that the D-Tech and ecotec were identical. but as can be seen from the table below they differ slightly

daewoo nubira clutch plate 225x25x24
calibra with ecotec is 215x20.5x24
(plate dia x gearbox input shaft x spline no)

I had planned to retain the nubira clutch cover/pressure plate and use a calibra turbo 4x4 clutch plate which is 228x25x14 so will fit the manta gearbox input splines and is pretty close to the original 225 nubira clutch plate

Now the questions
1. will the manta box fit the D-Tech engine, I was told by Dave Emerald Walker the engines were identical.http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=17552

2. Will the larger nubira clutch cover fit inside the bell housing of the manta gearbox

3. Which clutch release bearing shall I use?

4. Does the 3mm difference 228 vs 225 in the clutch plates matter or is it close enough. I priced a calibra clutch plate (anything up to £160) and I think I can get a helix one for about the price. Should I go for that?

5.I have used an omega or carlton box from the start, apparently a manta box won’t last long behind a tuned ecotec/d-tec

If you go onto the quinton hazell web site.
www.qh.com and download the catalogues you can compare various clutch plates to find a match size for the one you need.
I would suggest that 1-5mm undersize is no problem for a friction plate but even 1mm over could cause problems. You may also have to consider the clearence availiable from the fly wheel bolts to the centre hub of the friction plate.

I have leaned from expierence that just when you think you've got it sussed it c*@ps on you

thats exactly what i did, the table above is from QH and its not 3 mm under its 3mm over

thats the only one close if i want to keep the nubira cover
