I am in the process of sorting out my steering column i.e lining it up straight. The current setup is triumph, which goes through the bulkhead into a knuckle joint just missing the manifold, then through another joint to the rack. My intention is to have an additional knuckle at the end of the column, inside the bulkhead. However, this leaves me with having to do something about the column, as it would come out about 8" further into the drivers area. So it's either cut it, but then be left with the problem of connecting the new knuckle or use a different column altogether. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Some of the Triumph steering columns were adjustable for length. Is there a locknut and grub screw along the inner column anywhere?

Not that I can see. There is the outer black shroud effect which surrounds the central column. This seems to have rubber bungs in at both ends to locate the central column. This in turn has a slot to accept the next section which is splined at the other end to accept a knuckle joint.

Once built a Marcos that used GT6 steering column , that had adjustable length , lock nut and grub screw were in the engine bay section of column IIRC . Herald and Spitfire may not have adjustment ?

I dont suppose you can remember the length range. In actual fact it wouldn't really matter what the rack came off, but it woulod be nice to keep to the smae splines I guess.

Sorry it was best part of 20 years ago , cant remember how much adjustment it had .
