mk1/mk2 steering rack
jeeby_man - 22/1/06 at 11:54 AM

Hi all
i've got an escort steering rack, and am not sure if its a mk1 or mk2
do the threads for the track rod ends differ between a mk1 and mk2, as the new track rod ends i brought seem a sloppy fit on the threads (i thought it was a mk2 rack)
cheers
Ian

Mk 2 is metric 14mm and mk1 is imperial.

Yup, Mk1 1/2"UNF threads. Mk2 M14 threads.

Very easy to tell the -- MK2 threads are very coarse -- the 1/2" UNF threads on the MK1 are quite fine.

mk2 are metric, M14 x 2.0; count the threads in 20 mm, there should be 10 of them, or multiples thereof (2.0 is the pitch)
