Box and prop length

I'm at a slight cross roads. I have two gearboxs. A type 9 and an mt75. Both work and are in good nick. Is there any real difference between the two types? Will the length of the prop matter at all as mine will currently only be roughly 8" long with the type 9. The mt75 will extend this by a couple of inches. will this matter? Is it better?

type 9 is a good box and has lots of potential for upgrades, extended ratios etc, you can get ali bell housing for it to make it lighter etc, mt75 is a stronger box as it replaced the type 9, but has little room for improvement, my recommendation would be, if you are using a pinto, use the type 9, DOHC/zetec's use mt75

im going to run a pinto and type 9 and in my experience most people prefer this set up

hope this helps

you will also need a wider tunnel between the seats if you are going to use the mt75 which means less footwell space

how come the prop only 20 cm?
I believe the MT75 is better and fits better to recent eniges. Only disadvantage the mt75 is bigger and has two mountingpoints really low. I'm going to cut at the bottom about 4,5 cm from the clutch-housing. So missing 2 or 4 points of strenght!

U have to make your prop by putting an UJ at gear-side and one at the diff-side.

It's so short because the diff Ive got has a long nose on it. Doesn't weigh much and couldn't be bothered to find a 'proper' sierra one. I wouldn't make the prop myself because of the potential for losing my legs if something's not quite right. For the money, I don't consider the effort worth while.
Should've said the straight bit of the prop will be about 8" not the whole thing.
