hi has eney one used motor bike shocks eg .600 on rear 1200 front. bandit thay are dirt cheep .will thay work ok

ive collected 3 r1 shocks recently. I believe that the spring rates are a lot higher than required, and the travel a little too er, little. Hence they are best used inboard where you can use rockers or pivots to change the effective rate.

The rates are certainly waaay to high for a locost. But it could be fixed with using inboard shocks as joel said.

More hassle than its worth if you ask me....

I thought about this as well.

But...

It's more desirable to get more rather than less damper travel. So - IMHO they are not ideal.

spot on there Zilspeed!

I keep hearing this bike shock thing using rockers etc and it is an utterly crap idea for anything other than a pure track car.

You need damper travel for controllable damping. FAR better to use long travel low budget shocks than to use short travel on anything else.

Using them "cos they were cheap" in this instance is akin to going out on the p155 drinking water cos it's cheaper than beer............it won't work!

For a track car or formula student type vehicle they are fine because susp travel is limited, so shocker travel can be matched to it.

Reducing shocker movement via rocker arm is engineering bu115hit of the most ridiculous kind! You want to do just the opposite if anything!!!!!!!!

PS sorry for scathing reply but i have a bee in my bonnet about dampers.

Nobody seems to realise how utterly critical they are to how the car handles.

Good thing about driving opel mantas in my early years was that you can still drive em with no dampers attached, good fun for about 1 second

At first I had rockers on mine and it worked better but I dont seem to have room for it know- redesign-. But I went about it differently with softher springs and more travel and inverted the rocker so I had more shock travel.

We used bike shocks on our first build. They lasted a year before pissing all their oil out on the way to Stoneleigh!
We hadn't realised that the bigger springs we used just blew the bumpstops and seals out.
Bought GAZ after that
