I have bought a pair of remanufactured sierra rear calipers off eBay. They are beautiful. However, they are different to the rear calipers that I
have. My current, leaky calipers are a two piece design with slide pins joining them. The new ones are a single piece.
Are the two types interchangable?
I have an XR4x4 rear axle with an LSD. Are the single piece calipers for other sierras only?
Are they just the calipers with no carriers fitted? you don't usually get all the lot with recons.
As above i dont think you get carriers with remanufactured ones.
you dont
No, there is nowhere for the slide bolts to go. they are a single casting with the piston, two mounting bolt holes. They look like they will clamp
one pad against the disc then against the other pad which is held in the same casting.
My old caliper have one piece with the mounting holes and another casting with the piston and two slide bolts.
No calipers work like that (that I know of). They must just be without the slider - you have to use the carrier and sliders from your old calipers.
Have you taken your old calipers apart to compare? Got a photo?

Don't fully understand your description.
Any chance of a piccie of both sets? Might make things easier for the less imaginative of us!
Cheers,
James
Just had a look at mine. What you think are two mounting bolt holes are where you bolt your existing slider bars. The other casting (the caliper
carrier) then slides up and down those. You never normally get the carrier and the sliders included with reconned calipers.
Just take your old ones apart and it will become clear.

I agree with Liam, you can't have a fixed caliper with only one piston otherwise it would only apply pressure to one side of the disc. Here is a
photo of the mounting brackets which I think you will need to remove from your old calipers:
and here is a photo showing the caliper fitted to the car with the bracket in place.
I hope this helps,
Craig.

Also If this helps.
ive got a 4x4 rear beam for a 2.9V6 xr4 and ive just ordered a set of recon calipers from brakes international- they are 2 options of callipers from
bout 83-93 but they still looked different to the ones i had in the pictures..........
I was told there is a slight difference with the callipers as the mould was upgraded in 1988 but all mountings etc are the same.
Thanks everyone. You do have to use the other half of your old caliper. I've fitted mine today. Most of the time was spent unhooking and
rehooking the handbrake cables
I took it out of the garage and the pedal is really soft. I'd forgotton how much of a pain it is to bleed sierra rear calipers. I'll do it
another day.
