Do I need to put oil in my new quick rack?
David Jenkins - 30/3/06 at 11:22 AM

I've just got my new quick rack from Rally Design. The question is - will I need to put oil in it?

Logic says that it should have been delivered empty, as the delivery people wouldn't be too happy about oil spills, but the correct way to put oil in is to undo the bellows on one side and pour it in. Not keen to do that on a brand-new and unused piece of kit!

I asked the R-D helpline, and he reckoned that I could use it as delivered - but I have my doubts.

Anyone else bought one?

David

as far as I now they use grease in them instead (supplied greased), oil's a bit outdated now.

That sounds reasonable - it moves really smoothly with no mechanical noise or 'feeling' so it probably is greased.

Having recently had a bellows come off my old rack, dumping its 0.5l of oil all over the inside of the car, I'm really happy with grease!

cheers,
David

They should be pregreased i would have thought...
