I'm not sure what to do, please help
I'm using a vauxhall ecotec and planned to use a manta 1.8 box (of which i have 2)
but apparantly they aren't that strong an won't last long behind a tuned 2lt. i am also planning to pressure charge the engine at some point
and may even plump for an alfa v6 further down the road. so my problem is shall i go ahead and use the manta
box(es) now and worry later, or, bit the bullet sell them and go for a cosworth box or somthing and a bellhousing(which i could change should I swap
engines)

My mate uses a Manta 1.8 in a Manta would you believe behind a 2 litre XE and has had no problems. I would of thought the fact the Locost weighs so
little would mean it will be fine.

opel manta owners club, their forum covers the topic i'm sure, plenty of them run the redtop in there manta's with the 1.8 box.
ran manta gte 2.0
gearbox was superb even though thraped !!
cluchless gear changes no problem with a blip of the throtle.
seem to remeber an issue was running correct oil NOT just std EP90.

Liam,
Yours is only an ecotec/daewoo engine isn't it? This doesn't make quite the power of the xe so I wouldn't worry for now.
The cossie (t5) box is a lot bigger than the type 9/getrag box - you will need to modify your tunnel to get it to fit, so best to design it big enough
now while you still can!
I think timf has a pic with dimensions of a t5 box in his archive iirc.
the t5 box is heavier and i had one and tried it - it didn't fit my chassis - i also never found a bellhousing though a guy did make one some
years ago for vauxhall - t5 but he sold the rights and i could never track it down.
for the cost, weight, size and effot i would just stick with the manta box or possibly a type 9 and just put proper gears in it ifyou break it - the
down side of the manta box afaik is that aftermarket gear kits aren't available hence the wide use of the type 9 with adapter bellhuosings.
Ned.
ps i have a manta gte box which has the wrong bellhousing pattern but has the same internals if you want it for spares - free!
