Hi everyone,

Just a quick one, what width would people want a de-dion axle?

Standard Sierra?

Standard Escort?

or

Escort +2", to make up for using spacers?

Thanks for your time

John.

Std sierra. Then you can use the sierra driveshafts without any expensive mods.

Some people will tell you the escort track is too narrow for a locost anyway .

Theres de dion plans on my site infact, designed for std sierra width stuff.

Standard sierra definatley. Nod mods to drive shafts then...

Standard mk2 escort is too narrow. Now iv got the cortina on mine instead of the escort it looks alot meatier.

It means you can get some meaty boots on the back as well...

8" slicks anyone

Yip Sierra track is best IMHO. As mentioned the Escort track will barely fill the arches of a standard width Locost and with the Sierra track you have the option of building a wider chassis like I have.

Yeah but .......... you can easily get a pair of drive shafts made up then you can stick to the standard escort dimensions (which my personal preference is for - i just think it looks "right"

My only question is standard escort or escort + a little to fill the arches.

I'm with MikeR; there's a big market for people with certain bike engines for which the available live axle ratios are too low (3.54 is highest available). Having waited to no avail for GTS to do the biz I'll bite someones hand off for an Escort (book) width deDion - kit or built-up. I have a live axle and it fills the arches nicely with 185/60x13's, and as MikeR says 'looks right'. Any wider boots would need to be seriously gooey to work on such a light car (mine's a tad over 400kg).

Here Here!!!!!

I agree, hence my choice of narrow car! I usually love the "wide" look but on a 7 I think the caterham look is just right, looks nicely proportioned, sorry if this is cheeky but a lot (not all!) of the wide cars look strangely like they have been "widened to fit" a particular donor of some sort, can't think what!

For the sake of £150 worth of lightweight driveshafts I'll stick with keeping my IRS at original narrow width thanks!!!
