Brake drums at Gas Mk 9
caber - 31/7/06 at 09:36 PM

There is a dreadful smell eminating from the kitchen. I have put my brake drums in the oven to cure the Hight Temp paint. I have bought 2 cans from different sources that I expected to be gloss red both are a very matt orange. I was hoping that curing the paint as per the instructions on one can would turn them red and glossy so far they have been in the allotted hour and don't look much different. Has anyone had a good glossy result with any high temp paint? If so what make and how did you manage it?

I painted my freshly rebuilt crossflow with Halfords red engine laquer and that has come up a nice glossy red. I painted the calipers on my Civic VTi about a year ago with black engine laquer and it's stayed put so should be fine.

Black Plasti-Kote barbeque paint from B&Q, cheap as chips and works on anything that gets bloody hot, job done.

can you get it in red?

We seem to have stirred up a bit of a Bitch Fest on the topic of coloured calipers! Tell you what I'll start a poll and see what we get!

Meanwhile I hope someone can help me produce what I want!

Halfrauds do a coloured caliper paint. £10 a tin though

Thats what I started with, it is flat orange! I really want a glossy finish, so I can keep them nice and clean!

We bought ours from Larkspeed. It wasn't cheap but it is very good. I would imagine most max power places have it in stock.

Heh heh I was only larking about (think you all know that anyway!)

its all down to personal preference, I'm naturally not a very flash sort of person, I prefer to let the engineering/driving do the talking (which the former usually does but the latter very rarely lol!!!!)
