The chassis of my lowcost (bought as an abandoned project), is supposed to have been built by someone who has built book chassis before; (all the errors in the book seem to have been avoided/corrected), but the steering rack mount centres are only 185mm apart. It came fitted with a recon. Escort rack, which gives fantastic steering lock in one direction, but severly limited in the other. Can anyone think of a reason why they should have been made so close, instead of the 260mm apart that I think they should be? Intended to be used with a different rack? Different kind of clamp intended? Simple mistake? All other chassis dimensions are exactly as book.
Any chance of an image to claify your problem?
If you have different lock on O/S & N/S, the rack is not central, perhaps the chassis was intended for a different rack?
