I need to buy a Torx Head Set primarily to take the lobros off my diff (driveshafts are cut in half!) and also to remove the back plate.
Can anyone tell me what size sockets I need? Halfrauds do a couple of sets and I want to make ture that I get the right ones. Nowhere near the diff
so can't get the verniers out!
Not sure what the sizes are, but you will probably need to loosen the bolts on the joints with a hammer and cold chisel before using the Torx bit -
otherwise you will probably break your new Torx bit!
Replace the torx bolts with New Cap head allen bolts when rebuilding.

My best advice is to cut the heads of the torx screws with a grinder. The stubs can be removed with a pair of molegrips. Then replace with phosphor
coated 12.9 grade M8 50x1.25 socket head cap screws.

Torx 45 iirc, but whatever you do don't try to use a halfords one to undo them.
I broke several snap on ones many moons ago before I decided that i would never even try to undo another one, grinder is default tool now!
Not 100% but T45 rings a bell.
My Halfords one worked, you could try wd40 or applying heat if they don't move.....I reckon I was lucky with mine, and I have now replaced them
with cup heads as suggested already.

can't remember the size for the back plate (45 or 50's ???) but the lobro's use 40's
the halfords pro sets are the strongest cheep ones I've used yet - and if you use them to dismantle your lobros you can take them back every time
you bust one
I went through 5 of various makes on 1 pair of shafts, then hamer and chisel for the 3 that wouldn't move
next time I'll hammer and chisel the lot (I've got 2 more sets to do)
according to my brother (who fixes tractors for a living) he's seen snap-on ones brake alot ! but halfords ones not nearly as much
besides if you bust a halfords one that cost all of £2 you'll be a bit anoyed, if you bust a £20+ snap-on one you'll be 


As previously stated Lobro's are T40 and the back of my Diff is T50

I got a get of grips and clamped the outside of the diff backplate bolts to loosen mine. They all came out.
Well i got all my torx heads out and am going to replace all the lobros with 12.9 cap heads, but what have people all used for the back plate on the diff? Had to cold chisel all mine off.
Sorry to those people who ues a grinder for this, but having done it both ways, I can definitely say that the hammer and cold chisel used to loosen
the bolts is the quickest, least noisy and least likely to damage the joint method.

I used the impact wrench to get mine out, broke one halfords T40 bit doing it. They all came out with very little trouble and halfords replaced the broken T40 no questions asked. Just make sure you put your goggles on.
Ahem...there are two sizes of torx heads used by Ford on the lobro joints - i know because i broke two sizes of halfrauds torx drives on them. I
didn't realise until i got hold of a second diff and got the bolts mixed up!!
Don't knock the halfrauds ones, they are cheap enough and replaced no questions, no charge. They do twist a bit first though before they work
harden.
Tim, i'll try and get out to the garage tomorrow and confirm the two sizes. That said i would definately recommend changing to allen heads - i
intend to when i remove my shafts next.
