Bias Bar Setup Question
RazMan - 20/1/07 at 12:54 PM

Quick question - when adjusting the bias bar, to get more braking force on the front, do I move the spherical bearing towards or away from that side?

I have been fiddling for a while now and I can't seem to make much difference

It pushes hard on the MC nearest the bearing

linky

Stop fiddling & get driving
Have you got your numbers plates sorted yet ?

RazMan - 20/1/07 at 01:14 PM

I'm sorted now - all on the road but still have scary brakes. No servo and brand new discs & pads so I've got to do some weight training to bring my right leg up to spec

I know this is probably a stupid question but have you cleaned the discs if they're new? Mine had a thin film of anti-rust waxy lacquer on them when new and all applying the brakes did was shine them up even more!!! Cleaning that off them (with meths) made a big difference (even when using the same pads).... even then it took 20-30 miles for the brakes to really bed in....

During my two year build the discs went a little rusty so I am confident there isn't a coating on them. The swept area of each disc is starting to look more polished so I know the calipers are working correctly and they appear to be improving gradually (50 miles so far) but the whole car just feels underbraked at the moment which is a bit scary.

Silly question but have you driven a car without a servo before ?,and can you lock the fronts up with a good stamp ? have you got any heat into the green stuff pads ?

I must admit it has been a long time since driving a non servo braked car - probably 20 years! Having said that I was still shocked at the amount of leg power needed to stop the car - the first time was a true 'brown trouser' moment due to the new pads & discs. Now that things are starting to bed in the force is not quite as bad but I still cannot get anything locked up yet ....... I might have to look closer at changing the master cylinder size or caliper piston size if they dont improve much more.

Often the best way to work out which way to move things is to go to the extreme, then it is easy to know which way for a small change.

In the bias bar case if the pivot was inline with the front MC then you will get 100% on the front......
