
Hi, does anyone know the width of their rear axles, ie measurements from disk/drum face to face, i know it been discussed before but couldnt get a
precise answer.
the axle i am using is approx 55 1/4" from disk face to face, i have standard front book wishbones and i think these will be too narrow.
can someone please help.

Plenty of 7 style cars are wider at the rear than the front - it doesn't seem to cause a problem.

how do you mean yours is totally different?? i would like the front to be slightly wider as it should be. so any one out there with measurements

I don't know where you got that idea, most sports car are wider at the back. Ever seen a Ferrari or a Lambo?
ok so i should have any issues then? i still would like to know the width of the sierra axle just to compare.

The Tiger CAT E1 which uses the entire Sierra rear axle assembly has a track of 1470mm or 57.9 inches. The Escort axle used in the original Locost design is approximately 4 inches narrower than the Sierra axle.
According to my haynes manual for the v6 sierra so disk braked rear
Rear track width saloon is 1468mm
estate for some reason is slightly narrower at 1458mm
I'm a little confused about this rear wider than the front issue.
Why do Catermouse and Westfield offer wider front wishbones. Is this to make the front and rear track the same and if so does it help in any way.

1576 ish, 62" face to face (NOT TRACK) for the Sierra, and 1346 ish, 53" for the Escort, again face to face.

so what is the difference between track and disk face to face. my rear axle measures 1404 or 55 1/4 inch. so i am wondering do i need wider front
wishbones like the mks and mnrs and velocity do? i would prefer to have a wider wheel base compared to the original locost.

Track is measured at the centres of the rims, different offsets will give you different track
so how do i work out the track if i know the axle width? do i do it by working it out by using the offset minus the axle width??? is there a
formula??

Depending on wether you have + or - offset, you either have to add or take away the offset x2 from/to the axle width.
Axle width + (2x(offset))= Track
eg
1500+(2x(-35))=1430 -35 offset
1500+(2x(15))=1530 +15 offset.

The difference in front to rear track is done to adjust the way the vehicle handles.
Essentially reduced front track compared to the rear will help induce under steer (or limit over steer) and the opposite is true to. I would expect
if the rear track were increased then so would the vehicles tendency to under steer.
This is why Karts are fully adjustable in this regard as its the way of how adjusting hard and fast the slide is induced when going into a turn.
Track BTW is measured in the middle of the tyre so the difference between front and rear track on Lambos etc is probably not as big as it actually
looks, given whatever monster tyres have been fitted.
well was thinking of using et38 wheel 15x7. but think i will have to have different offset at the rear compared to the back, so i hopefully will have
the right track as i dont want the rear to be alot wider than front.
