does anyone happen to know the length from mounting face to face of the gts de dion tube. I know you should be able to run these on standard sierra shafts, but it aint happening with mine. Help.
It will run on std length shafts, its quite tight to get the shafts in as there is quite a bit of plunge on the CV joints, and its a bit of a fight
sometimes.
There is always the possibility that there has been a mix up and you got a shorter de dion, but they are only designed for the Challenger.

Tight fit they are, thats true, and once fitted there's only about 1-2mm of plunge. Have spoken to dave mac propshafts this afternoon and to avoid failure you need 14mm, per side, as on the sierra. may be able to put the shorter one on the right though and only have to buy one.
I can absolutely categoricaly tell you that 14mm is absolute balderdash! Me and Mark made my jig for the de-dion tube on Sat morning. We made a jig using the sierra axle and then mount the diff and drive shafts in the jig. There is only about 1 - 2 mm of play left in the shaft once you get the faces tight up against each other. I can't see how you could have 14mm with the shaft falling out. Yes it is tight but thats how it is on my jig which is the exact dimensions of the sierra axle....Oli.
Well thats good to know then, would you be able to measure, from the hub mounting faces for me, so we can compare. Thanks

Yep got them the right way round, you made me think though, just all seems too tight.
Seemed tight to me at the time but like I say the jig is an exact copy of the sierra axle as we made it by bolting the jig to the sierra axle and then
building the rest around it.
I'll try and get some measurements but I wont be near the car again until Thurs or Fri night....Oli.
Just got off my arse to check. Hub mounting face to t'other side in a straight line is 136 cm give or take a wee bit.
Thats great guys, thanks for your help. Must just be me being paranoid. Darren has said if i'm really worried, he'll make me a couple of 5mm spacers for each hub face. I'll see how it goes.
