Powdercoat cost!
ecosse - 28/3/07 at 05:07 PM

Priced up getting my wishbones powdercoated, £25 per bone
Whats that all about, I was expecting about a tenner each or £40 for the lot, not so locost that

Any other suggestions for painting/coating wishbones?
What has everyone else done with theirs?
Did it last, would you do the same again, and of course, how much did it cost?

Cheers

Alex

Had the two lower wishbones on my F27 powdercoated in gloss black a few months back, cost me £30 cash!
I'd have a good look around first before committing yourself,

If you take a look at:
www.electrostaticmagic.co.uk
you will see that you can buy your own set of powdercoating equipment for £99.
You also need an old domestic oven to heat the coated parts in.
It would not take long to recover the outlay at the prices you have been given.

Damn, if as though the dishwasher wasn't getting enough hammer cleaning expansion tanks, now the oven is going to be baking our powder coat! SWMBO's all over the land are going to go mad!

I suppose cost will depend on if its a straight hang up, spray and bake.

OR if there is masking, prep (degrease and blast) etc

£25 does seem quite high though. I had a whole chassis blasted, etched and coated for £350 and that was a saloon car space frame. Plus they did a superb job.

shame you so far away.
would have done it £25 the pair
or £40 for the lot shot blasted and coated.

Martin - yep, that is more like what i was expecting (25quid per bone indeed! )

JB - No prep, they are ready to go and no masking required.

Mal - nice link, I might just have go for one of those (thinking about all the other parts that I could do as well ), although as Mike says, I can see trouble on the horizon when I commandeer the oven

Cheers guys

Alex, if you can wait 2 weeks, pop them in the post and i'll do them for you.

Same cost as the hub carriers?

LOL...I was actually trying not ask you John, you get enough hassle from me as it is

Besides I couldn't possibly afford it

Cheers

Alex
PS
if i can't find anywhere local to do it at reasonable money I might take you up on that offer though

don't use an oven that your going cook in
the film and fumes are highly toxic,

i use an old one aquired from the freecycle locally.

I made some cd deckstands a while back, about 5 times the amount of powdercoat area as a pair of wishbones, and paid a fiver each for coating, not including blasting.

Actual quote was £20 for 4 stands, and they were bubble wrapped etc when i got em back and excellent job.

Mallory powder coating near leicester.
