Suspension bushes - confused
sammy - 2/4/07 at 01:31 PM

I want to get the bushes and ball joints before I start to make my wishbones/brackets.

The bushes from lolocost (here) include an outer tube (with o/d 25mm), but the Rally Design ones (here) don't?

If the eye tubes on my wishbones are 25mm inner diameter, would the Rally Design bushes also need an additional outer tube to fit?

Apart from lolocost, no-one seems to mention the actual sizes of the bushes on their websites.

In general what size are the poly bushes that locost suppliers sell, and are they all the same or are there different specifications?

Thanks!

The lolocost ones have the outer tube that you would weld to the end of the wishbone, the Rally Design ones don't. Otherwise, they're probably the same thing (depending upon dimensions).

Of course! That makes a bit more sense now, thanks!

Beware different suppliers use different sized bushes. You need to be sure you can match outer tube, inner tube, and bush od and id before you start. Also the outer tube/ bush diameter can affect where the hole in your bracket needs to be.

Think it all through before parting with your cash

Also be careful about bush materials. The Lolocost ones are non compliant nylon material (or at least they used to be)whereas lots of builders use the softer 'poly' type bushes.

Agreed!

I wouldn't touch the Lolocost ones with a barge pole. I made my pedal bushes from Ned's reject Lolocost suspension bushes... and pedals is about all they're good for.

Go to MK/GTS/MNR/MAC1 etc. etc. and buy a matching set of bushes, inner tubes and outer (to weld to w/bone) that way they'll all fit correctly!

Whatever bushes you get, make sure the hole through the Crush tube (inner tube) has the same sized hole as your brackets on your chassis, and you have the right diameter bolts to match up as well
Common sizes are 10mm and 12mm.
You dont want to be modifying things when you dont need to.

Also same for the shock absorbers, ie 1/2" and 12mm eyes on the ends. Same for the Shocks brackets on the chassis.

None of it is difficult, but just think and plan ahead, to avoid having mismatches.

The new book quotes a crush tube of 12.5mm ID for a 12mm bolt.

Also the rally design poly bushes have a 29mm diameter, these will not fit into the lolocost wishbone tubes.

I bought a load of Lolocost bushes from a member here.
What is wrong with them? Are they dangerous or too hard or what?
