Doh! aka schoolboy error of the day....
BenB - 3/4/07 at 09:11 AM

I was just perusing pictures of Sierra column cowlings- and was trying to work out how they attach onto the column.....

I saw that they have a screw hole underneath not above, which is strange because on my car there's a threaded hole on the top of the steering column...

DOH!

Guess who's got their steering column upside down?... LOL!

Bit of a PITA really, means I'll probably have to take the dashboard off (again) which is a bit tricky now the wipers are in as the bundy tubing, rocker boxes etc leaves very little room to get to the wingnuts...

There's a screw on the top as well beside the hazard button Ben. If it's upside down your key will be on the left hand and turn towards you instead of away There's a hole for the switchgear bracket on top as well.

The keyswitch got removed with an angle grinder a long time ago(!). I even ground and polished the rest of the column so its going to be pretty difficult to work out if its definately the wrong way up. Guess I'll wait until I've got the cowling and it'll either take 10 minutes to fit or a couple of hours!!!! Cheers.....

Should be the ........... errrm ......... right (i think)

Don't confuse him. The indicators are on the left and the lights switch and wipers are on the right, as you sit in the car.

Hazard switch on the top of the column

If you get in on your back head first you should be able to reach the column mounting bolts without taking the dash off, the column will just pull straight back . . . . .if someone has managed to pull you out from under the dash that is

I reackon that's why SVA require padding or 19mm radius on the bottom of the dash so you don't get sliced up on the way in or out
