what 13" wheels go over sierra rear discs?
JoelP - 8/4/07 at 04:37 PM

as the title really, im trying to get wheels without having the rest of the stuff yet, would rather avoid trouble later. I want 13s so i can use cheap slicks. Ta!

en excellent point john, but im on a deadline now so need quick simple solutions for now. If i had time it would get a pair of bike discs and calipers but then id need to lathe bells up (in fact id have to learn to use a lathe too ) so for now i just want to chuck on standard parts

Caterham 8 spoke 6x13" wheels fit over sierra calipers.

The minators don't

I,ve got proper minilights on mine and had to modify the calipers (came off a caterham, even then two fit (slightly sanded finish on the inside) and two do not (machined finish). All wheels have the same numbers.... cannot explain that but got off Ebay as a set.

In hindsite I should have modded the brackets to bring the caliper in slightly to have avoided doing this, ie welded the holes and redrilled closer the hub.

I tried revolution wheels (retro ford) and these did not come close.

13x6J Compomotive revolution 4-spokes don't fit.

You can get them to fit by either spacing (about 20mm), or doing all of the popular trimming tricks (i.e. moving holes, angle grinder to back of calipers, angle grinder to pad backing, angle grinder to tweak the inside of calipers). I am told that Escort MkIII (I think) front disks, and moving the holes for the caliper mount is an easier option (as you can ignore the angle grinding, all parts are stock, and the cost is low) but I found out too late.

IIRC, 13" Compomotive CXR's will fit over standard Sierra rear discs and calipers. They're not cheap though.....

Hello Joel,
This is standard sierra everything on the back of my mini, I bought them of you! anyway they are fitted under a 6*13 KN Minators, et I think is 5 or 6 mm bought from MWS ltd.

I fitted 6mm hub centric spacers, not for the diameter but for the handbrake hook bit to clear the inside lip, though some people bend the hook down to clear

Cheers
David

cxr's definately fit seen them on a few kits with standard rear brake set ups. you just have to slightly tweak the spring on the caliper h/b release mechanism

its all too complex i just want a cheap way to get the car moving! Either 13s with slicks, 13s with r888 or 14s with r888. In the long run i want slicks, so i need to pick a second hand 13 that will fit. Maybe i should just research the mods required to get any wheel on. Cheers for the help so far!

some pondering and i have concluded i might be best using rear drums for now, as this would mean i can use a single master cylinder and still have ok brake balance, plus its lighter, and then i can swap for bike discs and calipers at a later date. Also means i can get some cheap ass 13s and slicks off ebay, for less than £100 all in!

How does this sound to anyone? Cheers!

quite true john, however if a normal disc provides too much braking, why not use a pair of 50cc moped discs and callipers?! That must be lighter

stupid newby question here who might done something stupid again!!!
I bought these from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190096879012&rd=1&rd=1 />
I have sierra discs front and drums in the back.
Would these fit my car???
