i've been having some ongoing problems with my front suspension...

I've got cortina uprights & hubs.

the problem is the uprights themselves are about 2" shorter than they really ought to be to give good suspension geometery (at the moment the wishbones are parrallel)

also, regards the hubs, obviously the cortina had 4 studs, my back axle from a ford van has 5 studs. Ideally i'd like the same on the front. Is it really possible to re-drill the hubs?

I am considering alloy hubs, but may also have to so my own uprights (to make them taller) but don't want to spend out on alloy hubs until i know exactly what i'm doing.

anyone else had this kind of problem? what did you do?
if not, what does anyone think i should do?

I'm so fed up with suspension... took me almost a year to do the wishbones, and they're not quite right. no my fault really, just the chassis was made for differnt uprights originally, but to use the one they were designed for means either re-doing the wishbones, or buying them for £100 each...

I looked into your photo archive.

I don't think is easy to lower to inner brackets.

So probably the best choise is to get some sierra uprights incl. insert.

i was actually looking to do some taller diy uprights. I'm just trying to decide whether i should get the alloy hubs drilled to match the stud pattern of the axle.

thinking about it, i may have actually answered my own question in my first post

if i go the DIY upright route, then the alloy hubs would still fit the upright, so shouldn't end up wasting any money on it. i think.

also with the larger wheels (as on the back) on the front, *should* have the wishbones parallel with the ground. at the moment they are angles down very badly, In fact on one side the wheel doesn't even touch the ground because of the upper ball joint

just really hoping somebody can confirm what i'm thinking is a good idea

I was asked by a prospective customer about a 5 stud pattern into the std hub dimensions, the cnc people I use for my hubs told me it was not poss due to the overlap of the disk fitting holes, you can't get the wheel studs in the hub

Would the uprights from a cortina style p100 pick-up be any use? They are 5 stud I think.

hmmm the P100 might do the trick actually. I'll have to measure the PCD of the back axle (its off a Ford Aerostar if anyone happens to know what it is)

am i right in thinking the old Granada ones fit cortina uprights?
