Brake disc fouls wishbone problem?!

Morning all.

I've just reassembled my front suspension and noticed that on full lock left the brake disc fouls the wishbone, on full lock right it is clear by about 7mm.

I suspect I can correct this by adjusting toe in / out, but has anyone seen this before? what was the solution? do i need endstops on the steering rack?

Getting your rack centred up should fix this but I suspect you may have to restrict the lock, this can be done by fitting collars to the rack to act as end stops.


The cause of the problem may well be that you have the rack mounted in the wrong position fore-aft. The rack inner ball joint centre line should 1" to 2.5" behind the track rod end centres

OK time for my numpty question of the day. how do i centre tyhe rack? is it a case of taking the hubs off and ball joints and measureing using a tape measure?

put the rack into the centre by clamping a monkey wrench onto the splines and working out the centre from degrees. Then attach your steering wheel/column to it without moving it and with the wheel nicely straight. Then set your toe. This all assumes its bolted onto the chassis dead central!
