What 13inch tyres?
CraigJ - 16/5/07 at 08:45 PM

what do people recomend? i want to run 13inch wheels and was wondering what tyres others are using on 13's. I'll be runing about 140bhp with about 350kgs without driver.

"I'll be runing about 140bhp with about 350kgs without driver"

Isn't that a bit dangerous?

Seriously, I am on 185 60 13 H, the only down side is the low ground clearance on a standard book setup. I wouldn't go below 60 profile on any diameter tyre as you will lose all the handling, although grip would be better

a set of Toyo R888's would be brilliant for what you want.

obviously in the size dictated by the size of your wheels, but that would probably be 185/60.13's

toyo r888's or yokohama 048's are both my first thoughts for dry track use or maybe avon cr500's

I've only got experience of toyo t1r's and t1s's and or yoko 021's

running 13's on my worx 185/60 on the front 205/60 on the rear toyo r888's

You would probably fare well with the yoko a048r's, but even they are a bit heavy duty for that weight of car.

The avons would be suited to the weight but you won't want to use them in the wet!

As far as I know the toyos are designed for significantly more weight than that, but I stand to be corrected (by data not "well my car feels ok" )

Running that light you're going to need good soft, sticky tyres, anything designed for a tin top is likely to be much too hard. On the positive side they won't wear down quite as quickly as on most 7's

I suspect Toyo R888 or Yokohama A048 in 175/50-13 (designed for the mini's) will be the best bet.

ACB10s would be the ultimate road tyre as they are also used on similar weight race cars like old FFord single seaters, the only slight downside is that they're crossplies so need setting up a little differently than radials (less camber etc), and are also crap in the wet.

I bunged on Yokohama A048 185/60/13 in medium, they seem to be really good, super grippy in fact.

Car weighs around 420kg

Cost around £275 for 4, not sure if thats good or not.

Avon CR500s in the wet are good!!!!! (supposed to be as grippy when wet as a 21Rs are in the dry)..
ACB10s in the wet- that's another story....
