There was some concern expressed about my front springs a while back in that they are too short (see photo)
What I would like to know is what length front springs people are running.
I dont know a lot about the different springs available to be honest. Do they all have the same distance between the coils or can you get ones with
coils further spaced/less turns?
My current springs are 275lbx7" and arent far off coil binding. Is fitting longer ones enough to get the travel I need? Or should I up the
poundage as well? What are other people running with a pinto up front? Edit to add I am running 12" length shocks.
This is what they currently look like:
And with no weight on and no pre-load the springs have fairly tight coils anyway:
Advice would be much appreciated before I fork out for some different springs.
Cheers,
David

Ive got 8" springs but havn't had the car on its wheels yet. Your springs definately look wrong. You can get the same rate springs with different amount of coils. I remember with the stock car we thought we had the springs wrong but when we had the corner weights checked and adjusted they were spot on.
in my opinion another 1" wouldnt go wrong and perhaps 300 or 325 on the front,i run 350 up front and find these fine with good ride adjustment
with the dampening screw.
how much sump clearance do you get with your car type.
I have 3" to the sump/bellhousing and 4" to the chassis at the front as it was set up in that photo. Running an inch of rake too.
As long as the spring has still some compression left when the bump stop is compressed to 1/2 of its thickness all is well.
Practical test.
Put a bit of blutak between the coils and take it out on a rough road ---
I know of one person bending lower wishbones with the spring i have fitted.... so am definately going to change them
at 3" on the sump i would expect you to bottom out on the sump here and there on your springs,i had the problem of holing the sump twice within
500 miles at 2 3/4", i then uprated the springs and got the sump chopped.fixed!
