noisy diff/prop

as in the title, i've got an indy with zx9r engine and sierra lsd, how noisy is the prop/diff normally? when drive is applied even on tick over on axle stands there is a low grumbling /grating sound, can't seem to pin it down to one area, i've had the diff out and all seems ok, and have now reinstalled it ,but not connected the drive shafts, but the noise is still there, the prop looks new and i believe came from mk so should be ok, any ideas?

IMHO it sounds like the diff whine... this is normal - it is solid monted afterall, turn the stereo up a bit!

it's more of a grumbling rumble than a whine and i can't say for sure it's the diff as the sound seems to be resonating all along the tunnel BTW i need to get this sorted as sva is in 3 weeks

Its because you dont have any load on the transmission, mine sounded terrible when it was on axle stands, all kinds of weird knocks and rumbles, don't be fooled it will be fine once its on the ground and rolling.

It's probably a combo of no load, diff noise and the centre bearing. Don't worry too much, BECs make all sorts of funny noises. And just as you get to one noise, you'll notice another one!

thanks for the reassurance, i've got another prob now to sort, just been running the engine and it's blown two coolant hoses for no reason! i hate cars sometimes!
