coil over shocks locking ring

is this really necessary?

I've been reading how to build and modify sportscar and kit car suspension and brakes by Des Hammill, and it mentions a locking ring on the shocks to stop the adjustable platform moving, but i've never seen shocks sold with them, and never noticed any form anyones photo archive.

how is this seen on SVA?

on the spring platform, i have got a hole for a grub screw though, whicj i guess is for locking?

Most spax shocks had a second lock ring, but newer ones like gaz have a grub screw.
The sva do not check this. All they check for is any play in bearings and any suspension joints/bushes by rocking the wheels.

FK coilies have them as well, and are a right sod to free up when they sieze...

i'll not worry about them then. rally design sell them at £4 each plus vat, but i'd be easier getting grub screws, though i feel these dig into the thread too much.

cool!

i think mine are AVOs, 2nd hand off a racing pickup so didn't know if they'd just been binned as they weren't worth the hassle for racing
