Tyre sizes on 13" rims

What are your thoughts folks?
1600 cvh
type 9 gearbox
3.62 diff

60 or 70 profile on 13" rims (185)?

Personaly I would go for the 185 x 70 tyres, but thats just IMHO. ;-) Ray

Personally I'm running 185/70's, mainly because I like the look of them. The car handles ok and they contribute quite a lot to the suspension travel.
1300 x-flow
type 9 gearbox
3.89 diff

I think 185/60's give a wider choice of tyres nowadays, and would probably suit your diff ratio unless you are after a long distance cruiser.

I,ve got 185/60 yoko a038's on mine, okay its a BEC but the level of grip is fantastic, and ride comfort if far better than my mates westfield running 15" wheels.

A really good reason for fitting 70 profile tyres, they'll improve the ride without upsetting the handling.

With our cars generally weighing less then 600kgs small bump compliance is pretty poor - the whole car tends to rise over small bumps rather than the suspension compressing. This is worse when you fit lower profile tyres as the stiff sidewallls cannot compress as easily.

So I would recommend 70 profiles.

I've got 185/70 x 13" Yokohama S306 on my car - work really well, very predictable in both dry and wet conditions.

The only downside is the limited choice of tyres in this size - you might have to hunt around the specialist suppliers to get a wider choice, as the run-of-the-mill tyre outlets may only have cheap-and-nasties.

I have Yoko A021R's 185/70x13" on 6"x13" Capri Laser rims and I am well pleased with them, the car handles very well.

They came from George Polley Motor Sport for £173 inc vat and delivery. DT's wanted £300 and my local dealer wanted £65 +vat each. This was about 18 months ago.

185/60/13 tyres theres more choice and there cheaper .as for helping suspension :adjust damper rates /springs /tyre pressures and get better tyres in 60 profile the only tyre id fit on my car in 70s is 021 .id go for 048 or r888. cheaper tyres like tr1s toyo or 539 yoko, kumho do some in this size but not had any experience .the better tyres 048/r888 have different compounds to suit our cars ie soft /supersoft and medium something the othere posters mustnt know
