Oil in CV joint
40inches - 2/7/07 at 12:09 PM

Got a couple of drive shafts(push in) from a '86 Sierra 2litre, when I pulled back CV boot, oil poured onto workbench so I got another pair from a '89 diesel. They are oil filled as well. Did Ford use EP oil instead of grease on some year models or have I just been unlucky? twice! Would CV joints be OK running in EP oil instead of grease?

I have seen the grease in these joints turn to liquid but have never seen an oil filled one.

The grease in the mini CV's I got poured out as a thick black liquid. Horrible stuff to clean up as well

I'm pretty sure it won't be oil, but the grease thinned out so much.

Just check everything as you would normally and then refit with new covers and grease as normal - "sould" be OK!
