Diff leak EEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!
zxrlocost - 2/7/07 at 08:23 PM

hi

went out to car yesterday and there is a puddle of oil in the passenger footwell

traced it back to the diff

upon inspection as Ive never had to mess with a diff before I just take for granted they work it appears the oil is quite happily flowing from the big NUT on the front flange

however the nut is tightened up

the diff has the right amount of oil in

and the breather is clear

I read in a previous post Im asking for it I i take the bolt fully off I take it the seals gone

what shall I do

thanks chris

sorry but im a little unclear about something.

Are you in a round about way saying your unsure about how you go about servicing a ford diff ?

If your not to sure about what your doing, it might be best to let a specialist re-build the diff for you, or just fit another dry one.....

Another question (sorry) are you the newly appointed build agent for MNR ?

How did oil from the diff get to the passenger footwell, is your transmission tunnel closed underneath?

have I answered my own question

If it's a Sierra one and you're on about the bolt that holds the front flange on, just take it off, put a new seal in te diff and tighten the nut back up.

Did it on my Avon and it was fine.

I take it you've unbolted the prop?

Hi Pat,

Yes I have undone the prop, its the main bolt on the front of the diff I shall get a new seal kit for it.

Thanks for advise.

Chris

(Ps The reason why oil was in the passenger foot well was because the car was on a slight slant.)

NEVER EVER TIGHTEN THE BIG NUT UP !

mike smith1 - 3/7/07 at 08:51 AM

May be of use to some people, it is for a scorpio diff but the principle is the same
