Ap caliper
turbodisplay - 3/7/07 at 02:20 PM

Hi, i`ve got a pair of ap calipers from an Elise front.

I`m looking to separate the two halves of the ali caliper, add a spacer so i can use 30mm thick discs.

Tried impact wrench, impact driver, rachets.

Are the calipers thread locked, or is it due to the heat sticking the ali to the steel bolts.

I suppose the next option is to by a breaker bar? Would i be able to generate more torque with a breaker bar than an impact wrench?

Thanks
Darren

why do you want to do that? you can use sierra cosworth vented discs with them 28mm width and 283mm radius (off the top of my head).
Thats what I'm going to use. I just need to get some brackets made up.

Depends on many thinks. what impact wrench, was it at the right pressure? How long is the breaker bar?

I've got a pretty useless impact wrench, so most of the time the breaker bar wins.

Only time it didn't was removing a seized sump plug.

I need a new impact wrench!
Ii managed to eventually loosen them with my air ratchet, using it as a conventional ratchet, clamping in a vice and pushing hard!

I`ve already got 288mm discs *25mm front and rear.
Planning to upgrade the fronts to 345mm* 30mm, as my car will weight 900 -1000 kg I don`t want fade when pushing it!

I`m using vauxhall hubs so cannot use ford discs.
