I thought I would be clever and use a Lotus Elan umbrella handle hand brake. I have a Capri axle and standard drums and have made a contraption to
provide leverage between the handbrake lever and the brakes. At the moment i can't get the handbrake to bite. I don't have hydraulics
working so do I need this to get the drums to self adjust or is there something else needing fixed?

Pretty sure that you have to pump the brakes, on the pedal, to close up the hand brake adjustment. I have heard that if you use the hand brake prior to doing this you can screw out the threaded section in the calliper, meaning a strip down to put it back, (don't know if that is true though).
