i have a sierra column with 2 uj's in the system before the rack. There is a rubber bush which is fine the first time you push the (grey plastic wedge thing) into it but after a while there is play there (because the grey thing pops out) is there a way of holding this in, maybe something i've missed. or do i need to hold the column with another type of bush.

Any ideas!

Have a look at the spline on the steering rack whilst turning - you will see why it pops outs. Apparently this is quite normal You may need the auto-adjuster adjusting...

i used a petrol pipe type clip pushed up against the back of the grey bit of the centre bearing, then just tighten it up to hold it.

you can get away with a jubilee clip as far as i'm aware, but the screw bit was a bit tight for space in my application.

That Rhocar mod is great.
My plastic bush fell out so I put one of those bearings in.

Just one thing, the part number is SLFL25 not SLFL2S and you can get them from RS components, delivered next day.

Thanks for the Replys, its deffo not the splines just the bulkhead thing. Tom i like your idea, i was going to make a spacer for it but thought i'd check it wasn't because i was doing something wrong.

Glad to see im not the only one. That mod looks great but don't think it will fit into the Luego as it has a weird box arround it.

So 2 uj's should be ok,

there should be a thin springsteel type washer thingy...lol, no idea what its called.
this should stop the bush sliding back up the shaft.

I did the bearing mod on my velocity.
I drilled the holes for the bearing diagonally across the box you described. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner, took about 1/2 hour.

anone got any pics of theirs fitted? i have the bearing, but yet to actually fit it to my velocity as im not sure where best to fit it.

Just a thought - if you used a smaller version of the same design bearing you might be able to simply pass the traingular shaft throught the bearing (without the plastic bush) and nip it up with the grub screw.

Alternatively you might consider a pillow block bearing like this...



I am thinking about this because I have a clearance problem (the column is very close to my brake pedal so a smaller bearing would work better)

Does anyone know what smallest hole size the triangular shaft will pass through?
