OK I give up, my Haynes manual doesn't cover the XR4x4, the search facility hasn't yeilded anything and the interweb wasn't much
good.
Am I correct in thinking it's 39NM?
That's based on the table of torque and a 12.9 grade M8 bolt.
I will be using loctite aswell.
Looking through my old notes i have 38 Nm or 28 lbf ft.
I'm pretty sure this is across the board regarding Lobro joints.
Hope this helps
Thanks Bob.
I shall continue....
I agree with bob on the torque setting, that sounds about right, But! I did mine to this with locktite a while back whilst building and some how all
six bolts undid themselves on the near side hub resulting on the shaft coming off!!! Luckily I was slowing to a junction and so no damage or injury
from flailing shaft was done. Another couple of lucky points were that I was a 15 minute push to swmbo's grandparents house where a repair was
possible to limp home, also whilst pushing I had an AA van following me with lights on to protect me as I was on A major road!!
Since that day, actual torque settings for those bolts have gone out of the window and an impact gun was used to do them up to really ft with
locktite.
so far so good! just my experience on the matter though and i would go with what the book says on settings and keep an eye on them.
john.
Yep,
38/43 Nm (28/32 lbf ft) according to Messrs Haynes and co.
Mart.
It's an area I will be keeping an eye on, not only for that reason, but I'm not 100% happy with how the CV boots are attached.
The clips that came with them were useless so I used jubilee clips and they are a tad too wide for the boot ends.
Will see what happens when they're spinning!
Thanks chaps.
Not had a problem with the bolts loosening, although i have hard of the prob so i keep a check on them.
I did though completely degrease the new bolts before applying the threadlock, also i cleaned up and re used the original banana shaped spreader
plates (not sure if they make a difference)There was a long thread on this subject some years back, the search does throw up a lot of stuff but
i'll try and sift through it as opinions were interesting on over tightening and crushing the CV casing.
